The fun of Megafest always continues well after sundown.
Happy Valley is a local club treasure that seems to bring different surprises each year. Last time, we were led to the turn off by Fireflies. Another time we got to make some wishes on shooting stars when we climbed back out.
The glowies are shy, sensitive to sound and chaos– plus the walk is not trivial, so maybe save the bulk of your planned drinking for afterwards.
It’ll be a short, STEEP, walk in of about 1.0 -2.5km (i.e. 1km paved from Mt. Wilson campground +1.5km track/scramble) return, but it will be dark. It should be appropriate for anyone who wants to partake, but know your limits and bring a walking aid if you need it.
Liv and I will take a large group of 15 around 9pm, after the BBQ. I’ll begin making a call out and flashing my headlamp 15min prior; after that, you’ll have to find someone who knows the way and go independently. If we end up with a very large group, we’ll stagger people, as there’s not much room on the viewing ledge.
You will need:
- Sturdy shoes
- Headlamp
- Sensible walking clothing (potentially rain coat)
