leader training
skills workshop
Hello all,
Friendly neighborhood safety/training officer here, with some news and announcements.
Our amazing mountaineering guide and webmaster, Evan, has crafted up a custom plugin for the website that allows us to keep track of skills records for trip leaders and participants. I’m running a 40min (because that’s the free time limit) zoom session on the plugin and also how the endorsement process is meant to run, in general. This is primarily for trip leaders, but we have burgeoning leaders among us and curious general members. You’re all welcome to attend and ask questions.
Basically, I’m adding a “How To” on this to our induction slide deck, and it’ll be good to have some guinea pigs.
In addition to the above, expect that some committee members or leaders may message you and ask “Have you received X endorsement?” or “Are you endorsed to run this trip?” That’s just because we’ve been inconsistent in the means we’ve used to document this and it’s across a few spreadsheets. I’m one person and trip leaders phase in and out of involvement– it’s just easier to update your record as your name appears.
I’d like to be clear you shouldn’t feel targeted or policed when this happens. There’s no disciplinary action or anything if you’ve been running trips you’re not formally endorsed for. We’re not a guide company and we want you to run trips. If, for example, we realise quite a few vertically oriented trip leaders are missing training, that’s a signal internally that we just need to make sure we provide that training, even if it means sourcing it externally.
If we have time, I’ll also give an update on how our internal curriculum audit is going and how it’s linked to this process.
Best,
salomé
