leader training skills workshop

Hello all,

There is a huge appetite for upskilling in the club, which is amazing to see. It’s often difficult to find weekends where we’re not all adventuring. To encourage a culture of continued learning, we offer monthly evenings where people can practice their rope work, check in with each other, and share knowledge.

These are held after work hours (1830-2100) at the 1st North Sydney Scout Hall at McMahon’s Point, every 3rd Tuesday of the month.

Sometimes we get the firepits going (there’s scouty things and a full kitchen) and do a small change meal, so let me know if that’s of interest. Last time, marshmallows, oven nibbles, and fresh stew were a hit.

The focus is practice, not theory. All participants are welcome, not just leaders. If there’s a particular skill you’d like to practice, let me know in the signup so I can prep stations and equipment. You can also just duel each other at sock wrestling — it’s your night.

This month’s specials:

  • TL Induction will be held concurrently using the projector for the first hour or so of the evening. Please register for that separately when it gets posted!
  • Navshield, Moonlight Madness, and other things orienteers don’t talk about
  • We’ll likely have some new faces given O’day has just passed and people will have maybe had their first taste of outdoor vertical activities.

Ideally bring your own gear, as that’s what you’re likely to use in anger, but we’ll also have kit available.

*We’re moving things around so some of our usuals can attend the Paddy Pallin Inspire Series. Keep an eye out for that one.

See you at the end of your rope,
