abseiling leader training skills workshop

Want to brush up (or learn) vertical rescue skills? This workshop is based on the Perform Vertical Rescues curriculum (SISORSC002) and runs over two sessions (1st North Sydney Scout Hall and Wahroonga Rocks).

To do this workshop you should have completed Abseils Skills 1 and 2, and be oddly attracted to rigging roping systems.

Note from sam: Preference will be given to experienced and active trip leaders (i.e. TL guidelines for what constitutes active).

We’ll be working to Grant Prattley’s “Rope Rescue & Rigging Field Guide” (we’ll have a few copies on hand to look at).

Sign up (no charge) and you’ll get a free set of prusik loops!

Programme:

1900-2130 Tue 12 Sept @ 1st North Sydney Scout Hall
o How to rescue, rescue loads
o Vertical mobility
– Prusiking
– Knot pass
– Ascend to descend to ascend
o Hauling systems
– Simple/compound/complex
– Raise to lower to raise

0800-1640 Sat 16 Sep @ Wahroonga Rocks (meet in carpark)
After a group practice, you will:
– Put into practice what we covered on Tue night
– Perform two rescues of conscious person (raise & lower)
– Perform two self-rescues

If there’s time, we can cover material from the Perform Complex Vertical Rescues (SISORSC002) unit (pick-offs & traverse rescues). We are open to running a second night on 15 Sep to cover this.

There will be lots of gear to play with. Please bring your own as well if you have it.

We’ll take a BBQ to Wahroonga Rocks and we’re open to group food if someone would like to organise. Any takers?

Proudly brought to you by sam & stu.
