White Lines – Backcountry Snow Info Session

Get stoked! With snow in the mountains forecasted for this week it is an opportune time to learn or refresh your skills in the Australian “alps”.

Join Matt, Alisa, Wally and myself at UTS (room tbc) for an information session covering the most important skills and information necessary to safe travel in the alpine environment.

This session will be relevant to anyone interested in snow shoeing, backcountry skiing/boarding, or ice climbing with the club this season. It is great opportunity to gather information, ask questions, and get to know some of the leaders who will be running trips this winter.

We aim to cover a breadth of knowledge that will be useful to both first timers, as well as in depth information for the more experienced snow enthusiast looking to deepen their understanding.

We will be covering:
– Snow camping
– Staying warm at night
– Clothing and layers
– Food and hydration
– Understanding the weather
– Understanding snowpack
– Planning your day
– Avalanches
– Risk assessment
– Gear demos (BC skis, split-boards, avalanche safety gear, ice climbing tools)

Please state the type of trip you are interested in joining/running as well as your experience/lack thereof in the signup information, so we know how to best spend our time.
