Hello Explorers!
This one is for the hikers and campers.
Susan and Suhail will be organising an overnight hike to the Wollangambe crater in the Blue Mountains National Park.
This is a 2-day wilderness hike and camp. A total distance of 18km, involving fire-trails, off-track hiking, navigation, and pagoda climbing. Ascents can reach up to 490m.
We will be crossing the Wollangambe river, so winter bathing can be had!
We also aim to stay in large overhanging caves should you wish to try camping out in the open.
If you have been attending Sam’s excellent recent navigation workshops, then this hiking trip is perfect for you to practice your topo map reading and compass use.
To conclude the trip on Sunday, we certainly will reward ourselves with Locally made Apple pie and hot chocolate at Bilpin country town down the road on our way back to Sydney.
Pre-requisites
• Have reasonable fitness to carry in camping gear for the duration of the 2 days. Eg, Water, food, clothing, sleeping bag, mat, liner, tent, small first aid kit, cooking equipment, and utensils.
• Be comfortable with hiking 18km and scrambling up rocks with a large heavy backpack.
• Be comfortable in going to the toilet out in the bush, digging holes and covering properly.
• Be comfortable with off-track hiking (this means there will be no trails at times)
Kindly note:
• There are no public toilets or shower facilities along this walk.
• This trip is weather dependant
• The Club can provide you with a Backpack, Sleeping bag, liner and mat, and a Trangia Cooker for the weekend. I will organize for you to pick these items on Friday day at Storage should you need them. Please request these items on joining the activity.
If you are keen and able to complete the pre-requisites, we would love for you to join us for some wilderness adventure and apple pie!
Preferences are given to people with cars.
Hope to see you on the trip,
Susan and Suhail
