leader training skills workshop

Hello all,

There is a huge appetite for upskilling in the club, which is amazing to see. It’s often difficult to find weekends where we’re not all adventuring. To encourage a culture of continued learning, we offer monthly evenings where people can practice their rope work, check in with each other, and share knowledge.

We meet after work hours (1900-2130) at the 1st North Sydney Scout Hall at McMahon’s Point.

Sometimes we get the firepits going (there’s scouty things and a full kitchen) and do a small change meal, so let me know if that’s of interest. Marshmallows, oven nibbles, and fresh stew have been hits.

The focus is practice, not theory. All participants are welcome, not just leaders.

This month’s agenda:

The tread-rope is back. Think ascending 10m of rope is a breeze? How about 70m? Our brilliant rope-smith, Stu, has a system that perpetually feeds you rope to ascend — because nothing triggers one’s dopamine addiction like expending sweat and tears only to make zero vertical progress.

You can also just duel each other at sock wrestling — it’s your night.

If there’s a particular skill you’d like to practice or RPL, let me know in the signup so we can prep stations and equipment.

Please book on though, so we know we have enough volunteers, gear, and stations!

Ideally bring your own gear, as that’s what you’re likely to use in anger, but we’ll also have kit available.

See you at the end of your rope,

salomé and stu
