Hi Everyone,

Zen and I will be running a trip to the Wee Jasper Reserve in mid-April to explore some of the caves in the region. The trip will be done as a joint trip with the Sydney Speleological Society, and is suitable for those who have never caved before. Preference will go to those who have their own transport or have arranged it with another person before signing up.

The Weekend:
We’ll be heading down on the Friday night or early Saturday morning and camping in the Wee Jasper Reserve, the exact campground is TBA but we’ll try to book at Fitzpatrick Trackhead Reserve. All of the campgrounds in the area have access to water, hot showers and flushing toilets and have a cost of $18 per person per night.

During the weekend, for those who want to explore the local caves, we will be looking to check out Signature Cave and Dog Leg cave, as well as Punchbowl and Dip Caves depending on confidence levels of the group. If people decide they don’t want to cave on both days, there are also some nice walks in the area or just stay around the campsite and enjoy the view.

Requirements:
Because Punchbowl and Dip Caves have steep edges and exposure, there is a preference that people wishing to come to these caves have either AS1 or RS1. For those who haven’t attended one of these sessions, Signature and Dog Leg Cave are both quite easy to access and explore. We will be going into dark, potentially confined spaces, so comfort with this is a natural pre-requisite as well.

Gear Required:
All participants will need to have a climbing/canyoning style helmet (no bike helmets), as well as a headtorch and spare batteries. The club is able to provide a helmet if needed, please note in your registration if this is required. You will also need to take clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or ripped into the cave.
Tents and sleeping bags for camping can be provided by the club if required.
