Rogaining is the sport of cross-country navigation — you’ll have 6 hours to collect as many points as possible with your team-mates in some beautiful remote Australian locales. Brush up on your navigation skills and get comfortable getting off course with an adventurous activity to suit all ages and skill levels.
The Paddy Pallin is one of the biggest and most storied events of the year, with door prizes on offer from the eponymous outdoor gear company, and an infectious buzz from participants eager to test their mettle or merely catch-up with lifelong nav-friends across the state. The organizers have this to say:
“This year’s Paddy Pallin Rogaine, Bargo State Conservation Area, is somewhere new for most people. The last rogaine there was in May 1987, 35 years ago. Just off the Hume Highway, it looks like a great place to go rogaining. Bargo is the traditional land of Dharawal People, and a number of significant Aboriginal sites still exist there today. When Europeans sought inland grazing areas west of Sydney from around 1800, the land was overlooked for being too barren. Apart from a handful of inns and bushranger hideouts, Bargo Brush remained unsettled for many decades and still remains relatively untouched.”
The event site is here and also includes some info about the new scout/adventurer category, which is encouraging some younger participants. As you might expect then, 1st North Sydney Scouts, the wonderful caterers* from Paddy Pallin last year, are back and are sure to impress again.
When signing up, please state your experience and if you have any team-mate or walking pace preferences. We’ll get more organized and arrange teams closer to the day (generally by the Friday before rego is due).
