Hello all,
There is a huge appetite for upskilling in the club at the moment, which is amazing to see. It’s often difficult to find weekends where we’re not all off adventuring, and mine especially are divided between multiple groups. To encourage a culture of continued learning, we offer monthly evenings where people can practice their rope work, check in with each other, and share knowledge.
These are held after work hours (1830-2100) at the 1st North Sydney Scout Hall at McMahon’s Point, every 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Sometimes we order dinner to share or get the firepits going (there’s scouty things and a full kitchen), so let me know if that’s of interest.
We’ll focus on practice, not theory. All participants are welcome, not just leaders. If there’s a particular skill you’d like to practice, let me know in the signup so I can prep stations and equipment. You can also just duel each other at sock wrestling — it’s your night.
This month’s specials:
- I bet you’ve heard of a treadmill, but have you heard of a tread rope? That’s right — if you get your kicks out of ascending for some reason, now you can ascend for as long as your heart (and arms and legs) can handle it. We’ll try to get 2 going for races. Clearance easter candy for the winner.
- It’s getting cold. We’ll do cocoa and marshmallows.
Ideally bring your own gear, as that’s what you’re likely to use in anger, but we’ll also have kit available.
See you at the end of your rope,
salomé and stu
