orienteering
Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It’s also loads of fun!
The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.
The MetrO League is an annual inter-club competition for greater Sydney metropolitan clubs. The series is run from March through until August/September with events conducted on one Sunday morning per month.
What to Bring
You don’t need any gear apart from your normal jogging shoes and appropriate clothing (shorts and T-shirt are fine). Instruction is available to all first timers.
Cost:
- Orienteering Club Members – Seniors $15, Juniors (20 and under) $10
- Casual Registrations (Non-members) – Seniors $20, Juniors (20 and under) $15, All casual rates include SI stick hire.
Entry
You will need to sign up for the event directly via the link below. Pick a course length that you feel comfortable doing, or reach out and I can advise.

I may be competing with a fixed start time, but if there’s enough interest from beginners, I can run a bit of a session to teach the basics. Nothing stopping you jumping in and working it out though, there’s plenty of helpful people around to give you pointers.
Sign up to the OAC activity below and let me know your experience level!
If you’re wanting to improve your navigation skills, this is a great event to put it into practice. Feel free to message me or ask on the UTSOAC Discord for more information.
Regards, Tim.
